“Sandringham Yacht Club is much more than a yacht club – it’s a community where everyone is made to feel welcome and valued. One of the things that stands out most is how the staff know so many members by name and create a genuine sense of belonging.”

About Sandringham Yacht Club

Sandringham Yacht Club is a keel boat racing and sailing club at the heart of Port Phillip Bay. Our marina is home to a large, active fleet, and our members love to sail, race and cruise.

Our boatyard is one of the largest at this end of the bay, with 15 marine trades on site, so your boat can be kept, cared for and enjoyed in the one place. Staff are on the marina seven days a week, walking the berths, checking essential services and keeping a close eye on members’ boats. After-hours security patrols by Monjon also help keep a close eye on things.

Whether you want to race every week or cruise on the weekend, there’s a place for you here. New members are welcomed by experienced sailors, the club captain and our recreational boating group. It’s great to belong.

Your questions, answered

Still wondering about something? Call club reception and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Are permanent berths available now?

Yes. Limited permanent berths are open now at Sandringham Yacht Club. The marina manager can check the options for your boat. Availability changes week to week, so enquire early.

Is there still a waitlist?

No need to join one. Limited spots are open now, and it’s a rare opportunity. Enquire and the marina manager will tell you what’s available for your boat.

Do I have to race to get a berth?

No. Racing is a big part of club life, but cruising and recreational owners are welcome too, and our recreational boating group is a great place to start. Race if you like, cruise if you prefer.

Will my boat fit?

Berths are mostly 15 m and range from roughly 10 to 15 m. The marina manager matches each marina berth to the boat, its draught, your experience and wind exposure. Whether you need a berth for racing or cruising, tell us about your boat and the marina manager will let you know.

Can I choose my own berth?

Berths are allocated by the marina manager, because the right berth depends on your boat and conditions. On your tour you’ll see the marina and get a feel for where your boat would sit.

How does membership payment work?

Membership can be paid monthly or annually by direct debit. Intakes are monthly and membership is charged pro rata. Members save up to 35% on yard fees (not contractor work) and around 10% at the bar and bistro. Check berth availability and the marina manager will discuss the options for your boat.

How much does a marina berth cost in Melbourne?

The cost depends on berth size. The marina manager will go through the details for your boat.

Do I need to join the club to get a berth?

Yes. A berth at Sandringham Yacht Club requires Full membership. The marina manager can explain the membership process when you enquire.

What should I look for when choosing a berth?

Compare boat fit, berth access, on-site care and what membership includes. Sandringham Yacht Club brings berthing, marine trades and club life together. The marina manager can explain the membership requirements for your boat.

Where is the marina?

Sandringham Yacht Club is situated in the Sandringham Harbour. We are accessible by land via Jetty Rd Sandringham. Use the map in our about section to see where we are and plan a private tour.

Is there a boatyard on site?

Yes. The on-site boatyard offers slipping, hardstand, lifts and storage, with 15 marine trades including riggers, trimmers, shipwrights and electronics specialists. Ask the marina manager about access and services when discussing your berth.

How quickly can I move in?

Monthly intakes make joining simple. Enquiring takes under a minute, then the marina manager gets in touch to discuss your boat, arrange your tour and outline timing based on the berth that suits it.

Is it only for experienced racers?

No. Sunday pursuit, with optional spinnaker, is where new members start, and the recreational boating group welcomes cruisers and non-racers. We have something for every sailor, at every age.

What if I’m not sure yet?

That’s fine. Enquiring is free and the inspection is no-obligation. Come and see the marina, and the facilities will do the talking.
